Nikon

Hi all,

I have been looking at the Nikon d90 and the d300s ...I know of the difference between the (2).

Have any of you tested the two out ? if so...what do you think?

Please Let me know....

I don't have either. But I do have the D300 and would love to have video capabilities.
But I would do what you could afford, but really I would try the D700. Rick has it I believe, and I've only read great things about it.

I own a D300 and a D700. Both are great camera's. The D700 has the low light capabilities that can change the way you cover a wedding. The D300 has the advantage of having a 1.5 x factor for angle of view. It gives you the extra reach if your a little light on the long end of your lens arsenal and a 12 mp file.

Both have built in command mode that takes advantage of the Nikon CLS without the need of of a commander module or an SB900/SB800 attached to the hotshoe.

Both are at very good price points right now! New in box D300 cameras are still available. If you want a D300s you'll pay for the video. The D700 is sitting at a real nice price. Some speculate that the D700 will drop further in anticipation of a D700s. That's one bet I didn't want to take. I personally don't see a D700s coming out any time soon. Nikon has too many new cameras out there to undercut themselves that way. ie: D300s, D5000, D3s and the D3x.

Just my opinion. Hope it helps.

I also have the d300 and LOVE IT. My dream camera is the d3x but it goes with a heafty price. I'm glad to hear that the d700 is a great camera. Been contemplating on purchasing it.

Pat I too would love to own a D3x but at $8000.00 the cost benefit ratio just doesn't add up. That's a lot of portrait sessions ... If I did more covers or more commercial work I could justify a 21 mp camera. But on the other hand with the top ISO being 1600 you start venturing into Medium Format territory as there are a lot of backs out there with the same specs. The D3s has incredible low light capability and the 5:4 crop capability which I find intriguing...but then again it's twice the price of a D700 right now. I guess it boils down to the right tool for the right job.

You won't regret it. Once you go full frame you won't go back.
